ATTENTION STUDENTS AND PARENTS
For many years, J.W. Leary Junior High has sponsored a field experience to Boston and Washington, D.C. These trips have been extremely successful. The students and their teachers have found these cities stimulating locations for out-of-classroom exploration.COMMUNICATION: We will be utilizing ParentSquare for all communication this year. Please make sure you are receiving messages. There is a Google Classroom that all students MUST join to receive forms, announcements, and updates.

TRIP TIME: Buses will depart from Junior High at approximately 6:30 am on Wednesday, May 6th. Students will need to pack lunch, and we will return from Boston Saturday night around 10:00 pm. (Travel Dates May 6th - May 9th)
PLACES: We will visit the Salem Witch Museum, the New England Aquarium, the Boston Museum of Science, Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market, the Freedom Trail, ride the duck boats, go on a ghost walk, and many more historic and exciting places in Boston and the surrounding area.
TRIP INCLUDES: Transportation, 3 nights lodging, 3 breakfasts, 3 lunches, 3 dinners, sightseeing, insurance, taxes, and gratuities. A 10:1 student-chaperone ratio will be maintained.
COST: The total price for this trip will be approximately $750. A $100.00 deposit is due by October 1st and 2nd.Deposit is non-refundable. Please make checks payable to Massena Central.
REFUNDS: If a student is removed from the trip for academic, attendance, or behavioral reasons, NO REFUND will be given. Refunds may be available due to student injury, illness, or death in the family at least two weeks before travel.
FUNDRAISERS: 3 Fundraisers will be organized by the school to help offset the cost of the trip. All funds will be directly deducted from the student’s account. (October - Citrus Fruits / December - Little Caesars Pizza / March - Rada Cutlery)
SCHOLARSHIP: Students with financial hardship who are unable to finance the whole cost of the trip may apply for a scholarship to receive partial assistance (one payment $220). The deadline for scholarship applications will be October 24th. Scholarship applications will be available through the Boston Trip Google Classroom. Students MUST participate in all 3 fundraisers to be eligible for the scholarship.
DEPOSITS: Deposits will be collected in the cafeteria during Advisory (dates are tentative):
$100 Wednesday & Thursday, October 1-2, 2025
$220 Wednesday & Thursday, November 19-20th 2025
$220 Wednesday & Thursday, January 28-29th, 2026
Final Balance Wednesday & Thursday, March 11-12th, 2026
All payments should be given directly to the coordinators. Late payments may result in a student being moved onto the waiting list.
Criteria for Student Participation
Academic Requirements: Students MUST have an overall passing average at the end of marking period 3. (Overall average - the average of all classes must be 65 or above.) *Students who are failing may be considered for the trip IF they are regularly (2+ days per week) attending 2:16-3:00 academic support sessions in a course they are failing.
Behavioral Requirements:Any referral that results in an In-School Suspension (ISS) or an Out-of-School Suspension (OSS) may warrant trip removal at the discretion of the Field Experience Trip Committee.After 4 referrals, removal from the trip will be at the discretion of the Field Experience Trip Committee. Attendance:
Good attendance is required by all trip participants. A student is considered chronically absent after missing more than 18 school days. If a student is absent or tardy more than 18 days of school before the trip, they may warrant trip removal at the discretion of the Field Experience Committee.
Student eligibility to travel is at the discretion of the school, and final decisions are made by Mr. Halladay.
Expectations for participants
Students will be expected to complete all homework assigned during the 3 days students are not in school.
All students will be required to look up 5 facts before traveling on a historical site from the trip.
Behavior Expectations: Students will be expected to participate in all activities scheduled for the group. To ensure an enjoyable trip for all, students are expected to have a positive attitude, listen to their chaperones, and stay with their buddy during the duration of the trip. Students should expect A LOT of walking on the trip and should be prepared for moderate/high physical activity each day.Registration procedures
- Due to limited seating, student travelers will be determined on a first-come, first-served basis. We will take the first 150 students. A waiting list will be used for students who sign up late if we have met the limit for full buses. Registration is available using the QR code above, which will be posted on the Google Classroom and sent out through ParentSquare.
